PAUL GASCOIGNE has been suicidal over the collapse of his football career, friends admitted last night.

The ex-Rangers and England star is being treated in the Cottonwood Clinic in Arizona where he has been booked in for two weeks.

His agent, Jane Morgan, said: 'Paul has been suffering from clinical depression and has had suicidal thoughts.'

This is the third time Gazza has been in the clinic. He fled there when he was battling alcohol addiction and drug abuse.

The 37-year-old star said: 'Cottonwood helped me get off the booze and drugs.

'I don't miss booze... but I can't live without football.

'Now I hope they can help me accept that my days as a professional footballer are over. That is what is bringing my tears.'

Gazza, who is divorced from wife Sheryl, now lives in a flatin Gateshead with his friend, Jimmy 'Five Bellies' Gardner.

Jane Morgan added: 'Paul now accepts his problems and that is half the battle.'

#FORMER Everton star Mark Ward appeared in court on drug offences yesterday.

Ward,42, was arrested after a raid on a house in Prescot, Merseyside, on Thursday.

Detectives found drugs with an estimated street value of £2.5million. Ward was remanded in custody yesterday and will appear in court again on Thursday
